Role of Oxygen in the Human Body-Fire on one End and a Fool at the Other.

The role of oxygen in sustaining life cannot be over-emphasized so much so that life cannot exist should there be no oxygen. The human body contains around two-thirds of oxygen. Through respiration, the gas is transported to the lungs and is absorbed in the bloodstream in the lungs. Afterward, it reaches every cell in the body. The reactive element is responsible for breathing processes and metabolism in living organisms.

It is said that only living cells that do not need oxygen are anaerobic bacteria. They get their energy from other metabolic processes. Complex enzymatic processes are involved in the oxidation of nutrient compounds inside of our cells. The oxygen burns the food, which releases energy. Oxygen must be present in the right proportion in the body for supporting cell respiration. The non-metallic element is essential for triggering and maintaining the energy metabolism of living organisms. Living is the place where all biochemical activities are called metabolism to happen.

Metabolism is responsible for all changes in the human body-physical as well as chemical. It replaces old tissues with the new ones, converts food into energy, and disposes waste material. It is also responsible for reproduction. All activities that make it possible for life to exist happen because of metabolism. Molecular oxygen is vital for cellular respiration in all aerobic organisms. It is said that a liter of blood can dissolve 200 ccs of oxygen gas, which is significantly higher than the capacity of water to dissolve oxygen.

Oxygen is transported through the blood to body tissues that require oxygen and is combined with an enzyme (monooxygenase). The enzyme uses oxygen as a catalyst for various oxidation reactions in the body (metabolism). Carbon dioxide is released from the cell and is transported back to the lungs through the blood. This process keeps repeating itself. However, oxygen is vital for life and is responsible for the oxidation or burning of food for generating energy and heat for our bodies. It is also present in certain types of altered oxygen molecules called Free Radicals, which are always present in our bodies. They damage their cells, causing degeneration and diseases like cancer. Many research papers cite the production of free radicals as the primary cause of aging.

Wisdom says that you are as old as your cells. By using unique antioxidants, it is possible to achieve cellular rejuvenation, life extension, and improved vitality. It will make your cells look as well act younger.
