In light of the tragic news out of Georgia this week, we’re reminded of a quote from Dr. King: “We are all caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied into a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” We stand in solidarity with and support of our Asian-American friends, colleagues here at RepresentUs, and compatriots across America.
Every single American, regardless of race, color, creed, belief or standing should feel safe, welcome and ‘at home’ in these great United States. It saddens us that historically marginalized communities (BIPOC, Women, LGBTQ) continue to bear the brunt of vicious, violent homegrown attacks. It is the sorry vestige of America’s original founding sins, and we will never truly be ‘of by and for the people’ until we are a nation of, by, and for each and every one of us.
This is why we fight to unrig the system — to unrig underrepresentation and the power imbalances that magnify and exacerbate our current, tragic realities.
We extend our deepest condolences, and gratitude for the strong and beautiful fabric that makes these United States of America the incredible country we are so lucky to call home.
